I think the Emperor's new clothes is a classic and should be introduced to every child. I love this version because the illustrations are very humorous and help with introducing the story to children.

This is a fun rhyming book and in general, I am partial to books that rhyme or songs. The only downside is the last page that could rhyme a bit better.

Very fun and memorable story, that gets children easily hooked up with great illustrations that add a 'search and spot' element to the book.

My choice:

This is a beautifully written book about how friends can save lives essentially- first Fern and then Charlotte. I love how it slightly touches on the natural lifecycle and the fact that farm animals are eaten and that animals die.

This is one of the older books, and a great pick for Halloween. What happens to the spider that cannot find a costume and how can he save the day when bullies smash his friend's pumpkin?

I'm a Baked Potato! by Elise Primavera

My choice:

This is a cute little story, with lovely illustrations, that teaches the children to be perfectly happy with their own identity despite what others say.

Jack and the Beanstalk by Iona Treahy

My choice:

Personally, I'm not a fan of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' because I think it just teaches the wrong lesson- it's ok to steal and then kill the giant who wants to take back what is his'. However, it's part of the general knowledge and should not be neglected and this book is nicely written.

Kitten's First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes

My choice:

Even though the illustrations are black and white, don't get deceived it makes it actually easier to read in the evening! It is an adorable story of a kitten confused about the moon thinking its a bowl of milk.

Lanterns and Firecrackers: A Chinese New Year Story by Johny Zucker

My choice:

A cute little book to introduce Chinese New Year through the eyes of children and how they celebrate holidays that have special religious or cultural significance for them.

My choice:

A beautiful and subtle introduction into what is now such a sensitive topic- race- without being too much 'in your face'. It is subtle enough for children to take different things for the book.

Pip and Posy The Big Balloon by Axel Scheffler

My choice:

The story is simple and yet engaging about what a toddler's life is about.

My choice:

It is rare to find a book written perfectly as a poem, but Room on the Broom is such an entertaining story written just so. My son also loves looking for the items that she drops so it's absolute fun.

My choice:

Sharing, ice cream, friendship, and challenges of doing the right thing is a great combination for this story. It is fairly long but with only a few words, so don't get taken back by the length!

My choice:

This is just such a touching book, not about the sea, but about the heartwarming relationship of a little girl with her grandpa, who is a little forgetful. A story of love for family members with dementia.
