How do you introduce painting to your child? How do you avoid mess? Are you sure touching the paint directly is safe?
These are just a few of many worries mums and dads face when introducing something as simple as painting. With finger painting, the paint comes in direct contact with the skin, not to mention the delicate area around the mouth.

What to expect?
If you do choose to let your child explore their senses through painting, do expect that little mess. It is always better to choose the easily washable paint option, but kids being kids will come up with unexpected uses for their hands full of paint. In this sense I was lucky, whenever we used finger (or hand painting), the children were too amazed by the feel of the paint and how it left marks around, to explore beyond the floor, chairs and paper.

Is it safe?
Most finger paints will be advised 3+ but that did not stop me from introducing is at 1+. Before being called an irresponsible parent, let me add that if you are vigilant enough and make sure they do not digest the pain there is not much to be worried about. Just make sure you wash their hands thoroughly and that would be the end of the story.
