Self-isolation could be worse- really

Let’s not get defeated by the self-isolation the Europe and the world are facing. It is really not that bad. Yes, the holidays are on hold. Yes, that big party or celebration is on hold. Yes, the pubs are just a distant memory. Yes, those concertos, kids-free days or outside activities are gone for the moment, but you know what? It could be worse! Not that I am encouraging to lessen the severity of the virus, but it really could be. So, in an effort to appreciate that we were ‘blessed’ with a virus, the mortality of which is ‘only’ 2-10%, let us look at the scenarios that are a lot bleaker.
With kids in bed and some time to yourself, here is my list of 10 movies to show how bad things could be.
1. Contagion
Irrefutably one of the best movies when it comes to realistic portrayal how a virus spreads across a population.
2. Outbreak
A deadly virus from Africa and the search for the iniatial carrier and patient zero. Shows the importance of pinning down the origin, source and the first patient.
3. Carriers
A tale of an apocalyptic pandemic and effort to outrun it. Wear your face masks!
4. Pontypool
I wanted to avoid a zombie virus movie, but I simply liked this adaptation and the story-telling of this movie. It is a normal day at work, until it isn't, right?
5. The Cassandra Crossing
Maybe not the best movie when it comes to rating, a bit over the top, but great to illustrate to what lengths people and governments go in order to avoid spread of the virus.
6. 12 monkeys
A sci-fi take on the attempt to 'undo' and stop a viruelnt outbreak that kills 98% of the population in the future.
7. Last Man on Earth
Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel I Am Legend has three adaptations (so far). Last Man on Earth, The Omega and I am Legend. The 1964 version is arguably the best, please bear with the old-fashioned special effects.
8. 28 Weeks Later
Zombies aside, what does the society look like after a virus outbreak?
9. The hot zone
A terrifying true story about the origins and incidents of ebolaviruses and marburgviruses. A true story...
10. Doomsday
Ok, a zombie virus again, but please focus here on the polarisation of the society between the infected in Scotland and the rest.
11. Maggie
Just how far would you go for your children?

Now, the self-isolation is not that bad, is it?
...and if you don't like my selection of movies, treat yourself to a movie you like instead. Sit down, unwind and appreciate the time you get to spend with your kids that would not be possible otherwise.
